PRESIDENT'S LETTER: JULY 2008
Dear Once and Future Members:
The Board of Trustees met on Wednesday evening, June, 25 2008, at the Waltz Building. You may download the agenda as a word document HERE, and the agenda of future meetings will be posted, usually the weekend before meeting on the fourth Wednesday of most months.
Treasurer Penny O'Connell's report included a $2,000 donation from Leight Fantastics -- Eleanor's group that presents the annual variety show -- for which we are very grateful. A trailer of the documentary I made several years ago is now playing on YouTube!
Jay Mecham, owner of Fred's Rivertown Ale House, added
an extra $100 to his business membership dues! Donna and Wally Walsh added
extra to their family membership dues as well. And since my last report, more
renewals have arrived in PO Box 174, from Victoria Harrington, our immediate
past President, Celeste Fagerlie and Family, Marilynn J. Willard, Sandra Hinzmann,
Eric Hoem, Jeffrey and Ayano Ross, Joan Hemm, Middy Ruthruff, and our good friend Mary Pat Connors,
co-owner of Kusler's. Thanks to All!
Mike and Bob Bickford donated $500 to
kick off a Membership Drive and Fundraiser that the Membership Committee is planning
for the fall. I am proposing to committee members that we set a goal of $6,000
that will match the unsolicited contribution from the Stack Family Foundation
last year, and part of the Bickford contribution will be used to produced promotional
materials. Local fundraiser extrodinare, Laura Huntington will be meeting with
the Committee this Wednesday, July 9th, at the Waltz Building at 7PM to help us layout an
effective campaign. You don't have to be a Board Member to join this committee
... just show up if you would like to help. Ancient past President Gary Ferguson
will be leading the meeting.
The Bickford Motors company was a charter member of the
Society when it formed in 1969, so it's with a special thanks I welcome
their support, especially in these days of rising gas prices and dropping sales.
Thank you Bickford Family for your vote of confidence in the continuing mission
of the Society.
"One purpose of a museum is to show the way to a better society " or words to that effect were part of Ron Chew's keynote address to the annual conference of the Washington Museum Association. It was held in "America's Vancouver," as they say there, on June 18 and 19th, which I attended as the 2008 Gus Norwood Volunteer Scholarship winner. Gus attended every conference for years after retiring from the military, and I hope to return next year with a report of how our Blackman House Museum is making life in Snohomish better.
Next Meeting is Wednesday July 23rd at 7PM in the Waltz Building, when we will continue with Part II of Bylaws revision.
Cheers!
Warner Blake, President
