PRESIDENT'S LETTER: NOVEMBER 2008
Dear Once and Future Members:
Our Annual Meeting was held on Wednesday evening,
November 12, 2008, at the Waltz Building. You may download the agenda as a word
document HERE. The Bylaws' revision passed as did the slate of Officers and Directors as presented by the Nomination Committee. (The new line-up will be added to the website in January.)
Marilynn Willard our outgoing Waltz Building rental
manager, was presented with a PHOTO COLLAGE of a recent wedding and a $100 gift
certificate to McDaniels, which we understand Marilynn plans to spend on plants
for her garden in Seattle. Marilynn has served four years as the volunteer rental
manager of our community facility and has turned the 1938 historic asset from
a drain on the Society's bottom line into a positive force, mainly by building
up the wedding business. Thank you Marilynn -- and best wishes for your future
endeavors.
The short business meeting adjourned to the desert table with an amazing array provided by Board Members and organized by Sayra Hill, and champagne was provided by our Advisory Committee Member Karen Guzak. A BIG THANKS to all!
David Dilgard took questions following his slideshow
presentation about the influence of the Republican and Democratic parties on
the establishment of both Snohomish city and the county. David is a History Specialist
with the Everett Public Library's Northwest Room, which is a great source of
information on the history or our city.
The Membership Drive for new and renewing members
is off to an spectacular start with with a wonderful note from Alice Stockton Konze that accompanied her $150 gift addressed to Membership Chair Gary Ferguson, which reads in part:
"Dear Gary: As a child in Snohomish during the Great Depression, I spent some time working in what was then your grandfather's cannery. But I was fired!! In those days work went to the needy, and as the daughter of Kern Stockton, I was not needy. Nevertheless, the cannery accepted raspberries from me (plucked from my father's garden), which enormous sums were added to my college fund. Ah! Those were the days. I'm pleased that the Historical Society has gotten off the ground in a big way. The beginning days 20 years or more ago were shaky. Sincerely, [signed] Alice S. Konze"

Alice lives in Oxon Hill, Maryland these days and we treasure hearing from her as much, if not more, than we appreciate her generous gift.
And speaking of generousity -- Lee and Asia Bennett,
Paul Hodge, and VP Eric Vannice renewed their memberships at the Settler level; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clayton, George Price, Maurice and Tina Sachsenmaier, Maureen Loomis and Megan McKenzie renewed at the Pioneer and Explorer levels; while Lindsay and David Douglas renewed with a $30 gift that puts them halfway between Homesteaders and Traders! Kristen McPherson and Jeffery Ross renewed their family memberships online!
Thank you very much one and all! And if the level labels are new to you please
read all about our campaign to increase membership supported
by a generous contribution from the Bickford Family HERE.
