PRESIDENT'S LETTER: JANUARY 2009
Dear Once and Future Members:

Around this time of the year in 1969, around 16 people met in the "dimly lighted and not too warm basement of the Library" -- then located in the Carnegie building of course. They decided that evening to form a Society and monthly meetings were held on the second Mondays; $2 annual dues were collected. On April 7, 1969, a banquet was held at the Zion Lutheran Hall that featured Bill Spiedel, founder of "Seattle's Underground Tours" as speaker, and over 150 people joined the Snohomish Historical Society as charter members.

This year we celebrate our beginning and outline a plan for our future.

On Saturday, January 31, the Board of Directors will meet for a day-long session to plan the year's events with consideration given to what kinds of things might we do that would be enduring, events that will mark this year's celebrations far into the future. Please contact me if you have ideas about how we can celebrate this year of our anniversary and that of the city's 150th as well.

I am happy to report that the Fred Meyer company presented us with $1000 check -- the company's excellent way of introducing themselves into the community and celebrating the opening of their new store at Snohomish Station. Kathy and Greg Prince, longtime Society supporters (and former board member) have renewed their membership at the Homesteader level using the Donate button on our website, Arnold and Marilyn Hansen joined at the Trader level as Snohomish Properties, Rose Marie Clark renewed at the Pioneer level (she is the widow of Carroll Clark, whom I personally miss), speaking of memorials, Pat Bear sent in a $50 donation in the memory of her parents, Dan and Eva Sheehan, and Corbitt Lock, our city planner joined on behalf of the city at the Explorer level.

If you are wondering about the names we have given the membership levels, please click on the banner art above for a new window that will list all the Society has accomplished over the past 40 years and provide you with a Donate button for joining online, or where to send a check. Please join us in celebrating our anniversary and supporting our future.

Thanks!
GO!
Warner Blake, President
