It is my pleasure as president of our Historical Society, to extend this invitation to join us for Snohomish’s first Historic Preservation and Cultural Tourism Symposium celebrating both our 150th Anniversary and Historic Preservation month.

Knute Berger aka Moss Back, will open the proceedings on Thursday morning, May 28, 2009, at 8:30AM, following a continental breakfast of goodies from our own Snohomish Bakery, (included Friday morning as well!). Featured over the next two days will be reports from our national and state leaders in the field of historic preservation; presentations of preservation projects by regional architects; plus discussions with volunteers and paid staff working in the front lines of funding preservation projects, and those monitoring community preservation standards; as well as, community boosters encouraging travelers to visit our historic sites.

Stories and wine with Snohomish’s favorite storyteller, David Dilgard from the Everett Public Library, promises to wet your appetite for more discussion and food at one of our local restaurants on Thursday evening; and, you may sign up for guided walking tours of our business and residential historic districts with yours truly on Friday afternoon and/or Saturday morning -- a $10 value at no extra cost to symposium registrants.

Finally, all three days will feature a concurrent exhibition of historic preservation information and demonstrations in our 1910 Carnegie Library Building – most likely E. C. Ferguson’s last real estate development project in a life of community contributions, but certainly his grandest – therefore fitting it should be the site of an information fair full of historic preservation shopping ideas.
